Information for Prospective Pledges

The Fall 2006 pledge class

The national headquarters of Eta Kappa Nu requires that pledges be in the top 25% of their class during their junior year or in the top 33% of their class during their senior year. In addition, Psi Chapter requires that pledges be in major sequence during their pledge semester. During the pledge process, prospective members are required to participate in various service and social activities to encourage pledges to network with peers, faculty, and people in industry.

Requirements for Pledging

Please note that some variations will occur from semester to semester, but the basic pledge requirements will always be the same.

Attend all pledge meetings

If you cannot attend all of the meetings during the semester you are pledging due to any conflict (including class or work), you cannot pledge that semester.

Pledges will have the chance to complete 10 service hours divided as follows:

Excess hours go towards the Best Pledge Award (dues paid for!).

If you participate in an HKN team for IM, you can earn a maximum of two hours under the "any" hour category. Any extra hours go as "any" hours in your grand total.

Hours from previous semesters do not carry over to subsequent semesters if you do not complete the pledge process.

Dress up for three days during Dress-Up Week

Dress-Up Week for the Fall 2008 semester is TBA

Attend at least one HKN Society Event

Attend at least one Faculty Fireside

Turn in a completed signature book at the 4th pledge meeting

Take and pass the pledge quiz at the 4th pledge meeting.

Attend Smoker

Smoker is required, so be sure to plan ahead.

Attend initiation

If you do not attend initiation, you cannot be a member of Eta Kappa Nu. Plan ahead!

Pay dues

We collect dues of $40 and send them to HKN National Headquarters. The Psi Chapter does not receive any of these funds.

Membership dues include a lifetime subscription to The Bridge.

If you have any concerns about dues, please feel free to contact an officer, and we can work something out.

The Signature Book

Required signatures:

A complete signature book (excluding the President's signature) is to be turned in at the 4th pledge meeting.

The design of the signature book is up to you. It does not need to be in book form.

Your name should be prominently located on your signature book.

You can get the President's signature only at smoker.

Be professional when asking for faculty signatures (i.e. no scraps of paper). Introduce yourself!

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT TO BEGIN COLLECTING SIGNATURES.

At the end-of-semester banquet, an award will be given for the best sig book.
