Organization — How to Join
Earn your place in HKN
Membership is by invitation, based on national IEEE-HKN scholarship standards. If you qualify, the pledge semester is your path in — about an hour a week, and worth every minute.
Eligibility
| Standing | Credit hours | Requirement |

| Sophomore | 30+ | Top 20% of your class |
| Junior | 60+ | Top 25% of your class |
| Senior | 90+ | Top 33% of your class |
| Graduate | — | All ECE graduate students who have completed one semester |
Course requirement: you must have completed one of ECE 312 or ECE 411 before pledging, and be enrolled in (or have finished) the other during your pledge semester.
The pledge semester, step by step
Come to Fall Rush
Eligible students are invited at the start of each semester. Meet the officers, hear what candidacy involves, and sign up.
Attend general meetings
Four Wednesday-night general meetings over the course of the semester.
Show up to events
Three social or service events, plus one Fireside, the Sig Party, a Coffee Chat, your Pledge Interview, and the Smoker.
Take part in E-Week
Help IEEE host one Engineering Week event and compete in another with your pledge class.
Complete your signature book
Interview five pledges, a set of actives, and every officer. Creative formats encouraged — just make your name prominent.
Get inducted
Pay the $80 dues, finish your requirements, and join IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu for life at the Induction ceremony.
